Jorge Matos

Senior Director, READI Chicago, Heartland Alliance

Jorge Matos

Jorge Matos joined Heartland Alliance in May 2022 as Senior Director of READI Chicago. In this role, he oversees the management and implementation of the evidence-based and trauma-informed program to reduce gun violence and promote safety and opportunity in the city.

Over the past 17 years, Mr. Matos has leveraged his relationships and experience in the field of violence prevention to create holistic and restorative solutions to the issues plaguing our city. Most recently, Mr. Matos served as Director of Violence Intervention of the Safe Streets program as the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO). At ALSO, Mr. Matos collaborated with systems and stakeholders to create a comprehensive approach to both intimate partner and community violence. Additionally, he has supported at-risk youth through vocational training, transitional jobs, intensive mentorship, and conflict resolution.

As a life-long resident of the West Side of Chicago, Mr. Matos has an in-depth understanding of the issues that are facing our neighborhoods in the city. He is dedicated to healing and restoration for both the individual and the community.

Mr. Matos has a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Non-Profit Management from Northeastern University.

Currently, our research focuses primarily on gun violence prevention and community violence intervention (CVI), policing practices, and public safety, and we are expanding into other areas that effect neighborhood health and well-being.
